Splitboard Course in the Alps: Beginner to Advanced, Progression, Autonomy & Avalanche Safety

Join a splitboard course led by a guide who specializes in splitboard touring. Technical skill-building, tailored conversions, snow management, and avalanche safety in the best-snow-covered ranges of the French Alps (Beaufortain, Giffre, Mont-Blanc, Maurienne).

These courses are a great way to discover splitboarding within a group of like-minded people who share your goals: discovery, learning, effort, riding, and fun. They're also a chance to progress and refine your technique in this winter discipline — and for some, to pick up the first notions of safety and risk management needed to move confidently through varied mountain terrain. Solo or with friends, you can browse the splitboard courses on offer and sign up for the one (or ones) that suit you. Trips run from a minimum of 4 people up to a maximum of 6 participants.

Our splitboard courses are aimed at snowboarders who want to discover split touring or build independence on alpine routes. Day trip, weekend, or multi-day stay: every format combines technical progression, safety management, and the pleasure of riding down varied terrain.

Huts suited to splitboarding

In winter, staffing depends on the warden's schedule. We select huts that are well suited to splitboarding: a manageable approach, interesting terrain on the way up, varied descents, and optimal snow conditions for riding.

How to assess your splitboard level

1. To accurately assess your splitboard level, you need to honestly estimate 2 key factors: your physical fitness and your technical snowboarding level.

2. If you're torn between two levels: let us know! It's possible that a level matches your fitness but not quite your technical ability, or the other way round. We aim to keep our splitboard courses at a consistent level and can advise you by comparing your profile with those of participants already registered.

Levels for courses with hut stays

Level 1 - Beginner

  • I do regular sport, I'm able to sustain 5 hours of effort in the mountains up to 3000 m altitude, and I can manage 1000 m of positive elevation gain on the first day, then 600–800 m on subsequent days.
  • I ride a little off-piste, I'm comfortable in powder and transformed snow but less so in crusty or icy snow, and I can consistently control my speed and line on 30° slopes; I'm confident with frontside turns on 30° slopes but a bit more hesitant on backside turns.

  • Level 2 - Intermediate

  • I practise an endurance sport at least once a week, I'm able to sustain more than 5 hours of effort in the mountains up to 3000 m altitude, and I can manage 800–1000 m of positive elevation gain per day over 3 or 4 consecutive days.
  • I regularly ride off-piste, I'm comfortable in powder, transformed and crusty snow but less so in icy snow, and I can consistently control my speed and line on 30° slopes with 35° sections; I'm confident with both frontside and backside turns on 30° slopes.

  • Level 3 - Advanced

  • I do regular sport, I'm able to sustain 5–6 hours of effort in the mountains up to 3000 m altitude, and I can manage 1000–1500 m of positive elevation gain per day over 3 or 4 consecutive days.
  • I regularly ride off-piste and/or splitboard, I'm comfortable in powder, transformed and crusty snow but still find icy snow a bit challenging, and I can consistently control my speed and line on 35° slopes with 40° sections; I'm confident with frontside turns on 35° slopes but a bit more hesitant on backside turns.

  • Level 4 - Expert

  • I do one or more endurance sports several times a week, I'm able to sustain more than 6 hours of effort in the mountains up to 3000 m altitude, and I can manage 1500 m of positive elevation gain per day over 3 or 4 consecutive days.
  • I regularly ride off-piste and/or splitboard, I'm comfortable in all snow types (powder, ice, transformed, crusty), and I can consistently control my speed and line on 40° slopes with 45° sections; I'm confident with both frontside and backside turns on 40° slopes.
